GLIDES with an International Perspective
We are Japanese language students at Deerfield Beach High School who participated in the Global Learning Initiative through Digital Education for Students (GLIDES) Initiative in Broward County, Florida in the Fall of 2007. The GLIDES program seeks, through project-based learning, to integrate technology into the curriculum to answer one school-wide essential question; classes in different subject areas answered the question, “How does diversity impact our environment?”
Our class essential question was this: How does diversity, foreign and domestic, impact the environment in Japan? Drawn from this guiding question, our project topics ranged from investigations of linguistic and artistic diversity to surveys of changing attitudes about ethnicity and social norms. Some of the students also examined how this question related to some of the same topics here in the United States.
